The range_ops form allows the setting of various generic characteristics,
notably LAN association, on a range of addresses. For ordinary COs the LAN
is in fact the only attribute that can be set thus, but UIS registrars can
also set MZONE, STATUS and subnet.
A trigger guard called "armed" is provided, and reset to safe at every opportunity, in an attempt to avoid nasty accidents. In general there is no easy reversing of an extended range operation!
Note that LANs must be defined, typically via the table_ops form,
prior to being referenced.
